At Eggborough, our Health and Safety performance is critical to our core business of generating electricity. The objective of being the safest power station in the UK is owned and shared by staff and contract partners alike.

This will be achieved by: 

  • Regular consultation with all parties on site to identify Health and Safety continuous improvement opportunities.

  • The collaboration with everyone on site to identify, modify and improve behaviours to prevent mistakes and oversights leading to incidents.

  • Generating a culture that encourages a questioning attitude to health and safety from all parties.

  • Participation in a scheme where POSITIVE and SAFE behaviour is PRAISED, ENCOURAGED and REWARDED.

  • Shared commitment to health, safety and welfare, which is measured and visible forming part of the key business KPI’s focusing on leading measures.

  • Having a target of zero accidents and occupational ill health situations.

  • Ensuring compliance, as a minimum, with all relevant UK and power generation industry standards, legislative and other requirements.

  • Having readily available and accessible competent health and safety advice, information and support.

  • Open reporting and investigation of all events with a view to extracting and implementing vital learning points to ensure continuous improvement.

  • Continuing approval under the Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) to OHSAS 18001:2007.

  • Committing to tackling extremist material on the internet, in association with the West Yorkshire Police.
